Promising Research Results to Combat Alzheimer’s

Participants in the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s may soon be carrying the hoped for white flowers.  A legend in the immunology and biochemistry field, Chang Yi Wang, has developed a UB-311 vaccine that, in its second trial, positively improved brain function in 96% of patients.  And the best news?  The vaccine worked with no serious side effects.

Alzheimer’s is widely believed to be caused by two proteins called beta-amyloid and tau.  When damaged, these proteins form into clumps – called plaque – disrupt cell communication, metabolism, and repair and blockage of the flow of food.  The UB-311 Vaccine demonstrated a reduction in protein plaque gumming up brain function.  We are doing better than the placebo on all these things,” said United Neuroscience CEO Mei Mei Hu. “We can’t make any claims yet, but we’re pointing in all the right directions.”[1] After a successful phase II trial, the company is currently beginning their third phase of trials for the vaccine.

UB-311 is promising.  The technology requires people to start the vaccines prior to appearance of symptoms.  United Neuroscience is raising funds for a more conclusive study.  They are also moving ahead on trials to combat Parkinson’s disease.

Steve and I have personal experience with progressive brain d1sease;  Steve’s dad, Ray Kling, died from dementia on March 9, 2015.  So we understand how heartbreak and worry such diseases inflict on families.

It’s also a reason we offer our Scoop Plates.  They are a helpful tool for patients whose hands are shaky or who take a long time to eat.  Plus, the plates offer beauty to those afflicted.  Our business wants to bring dignity to folks with long term illness; We are always gratified to learn how the plates add satisfaction to lives.

This story is taken entirely from the web site listed in end note 1.  How happy will be all of us as breakthroughs arise for horrible inflictions such as this!
